OmskInform: Losses of isobutane were reduced by 10 times at “Omsky kauchuk” production plant

The introduction of resource-saving technologies and modern equipment at the enterprise gives both economic and environmental effect.

Condenser T-300/5 – a unit for cooling and condensation of vapors leaving the column for distillation of volatile components from butane-butylene fraction – was launched at AO “Omsky kauchuk” (a part of the GC Titan). Due to modernization of the apparatus, isobutane loss at the technical butane processing unit was reduced substantially 10 times. In addition, new equipment features will allow the company to increase the volume of liquefied propane for further sale.

– Today we can speak of the first results. Thus, in the first ten-day period of July isobutane loss in stripping was significantly decreased. It means that the upgraded condenser has allowed us to significantly reduce product loss, – the company informed.

It should be noted that resource saving is one of the trends of the large-scale modernization program of “Omsky kauchuk”. Thus, the plant is preparing to upgrade the system for liquefied gas discharge from tank cars. Due to the introduction of a new compressor module, isobutane will be completely recycled to the production cycle under the existing discharge scheme.

The installation of a new compression module will give not only an economic, but also an environmental effect. Isobutane is a feedstock for the production of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). Adding MTBE to gasoline increases the octane number of fuel and improves its environmental characteristics, significantly reducing the content of carbon monoxide in vehicle emission.
