Ministry of Industry of Omsk Region: AO “Omsky kauchuk” plant continues modernization

The butadiene recovery column installation is in process at the AO “Omsky kauchuk” plant (a part of the AO GC Titan). The new equipment will replace the old one in one of the workshop’s section for the production of methyl-tert-butyl ether (MTBE).

“Column height without base is 48 m, total height is 56 m, diameter is 3.4 m,” said Igor Poyarkov, Head of the MTBE production workshop. “This massive unit includes six sections, each weighing more than 20 tons.”

This column was manufactured a part by part under the order in Republic of Bashkortostan. Its “content” is represented by valve trays - contact devices on which the process of heat and mass transfer between liquid and gaseous media is realized.

Currently, preparatory work is underway at the workshop site. The installation of the column itself will take place in two stages: the start of work is scheduled for September this year.

The column is designed to extract the target product (butadiene) from a mixture of hydrocarbons with an extractant (solvent) by desorption. Let us explain that desorption is the removal of absorbed gases from liquids at a certain temperature and pressure.
