Unique equipment for lab testing of arctic lubricants at Novocherkassk Lubricant Production Plant

The new laboratory equipment - bench for determining lubricant viscosity properties at low temperatures — was delivered to Novocherkassk Lubricant Production Plant (forms a part of the GC «Titan») in November. The equipment is one of a kind in the country.

It is worth reminding that in 2018 Novocherkassk Lubricant Production Plant launched manufacturing products for operation in the conditions of the Far North and arranged first deliveries to enterprises of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District and Sakhalin. Severe operation conditions predetermine strict requirements to temperature resistance of such "arctic" lubricants and one of laboratory tests necessary to establish compliance with such requirements is pumpability test at low temperature which was earlier carried out by third party contractors.

In view of planned expansion of product mix and output of lubricants intended for use at low temperatures, the enterprise took a decision on purchase of own test equipment.

SKF Lubrication System Germany, one of world's major manufacturers of lubrication systems, is the supplier of the test bench. The unit includes a compact electric pump Lincoln equipped with an integrated ultrasonic level controller and monitoring system, as well as a progressive piston-type lubricant distributor (feeder) Lincoln with 24 outlets. The test bench provides for testing of viscous lubricants at normal and high pressure within the temperature range from +20˚С to -60˚С. It is intended for testing multi-purpose consistent lubricants manufactured by Novocherkassk Plant including the products used at friction joints of mining machinery, metallurgical equipment, railway transport, as well as wheeled and track vehicles and mechanisms of various applications.

It bears reminding that the laboratory of Novocherkassk Lubricant Production Plant performs the product quality control at all production stages. It is equipped with high-accuracy domestic equipment: stock of the department includes high-accuracy microscopes, liquid low temperature thermostats, pH-meters, distillers, viscosity meters, friction machines imitating operation of lubricant in bearings, penetrometers etc.
