Experts are sure: the most environmentally friendly and safe polymer will be produced in Pskov region. It was stated during the round table discussion “Modern environmentally friendly technologies for the production and processing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)”, which was held at the venue of the engineering center of Pskov State University.
Additionally, the round table discussion was organized by Pskov State University in conjunction with “Titan-Polymer” Pskov plant within the framework of cooperation in the field of education and science. Leading Russian experts in the field of polymers, representatives of the Administration of Pskov region and Pskov district, Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the region and All-Russia People’s Front, as well as teachers of Pskov State University took part in this event. They discussed the environmental safety issue relative to the polymer production, as well as the development prospects of processing such materials in Russia.
A report was delivered by Valery Borisov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Advisor to the General Director of the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Chemical Technology (Rosatom State Corporation). The speaker emphasized that PET was the most environmentally friendly and safe polymer. Valery Borisov paid attention that this fact had been proved by independent studies. “Russian and foreign scientists conducted researches relative to three safety criteria: environmental friendliness of raw materials, environmental friendliness of production itself, as well as polymer products. Taking into consideration all these three parameters PET possesses the best environmental safety index,” the expert added.
Muslim Mikitayev, senior researcher of Kabardino-Balkarian State University, indicated that the polymer processing, in particular PET and BOPET into high-margin products is very important for Pskov region and the country as a whole. “Promising textile PET will be produced in Pskov region. Fibers and threads made of polyethylene terephthalate are used to produce mesh fabrics for screen printing, agricultural tows, woven tapes, filter cloth, including those for oil and gas, as well as other technical items,” the expert emphasized.
In conclusion, Taras Antal, Pro-Rector of Research, Principal Researcher of Scientific Research Complex Environmental Studies of Pskov State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences delivered his report. In the course of his speech he proposed to organize the environmental monitoring of the construction of “Titan-Polymer” Pskov plant on the university base.
