«Poliom» improves efficiency of water treatment

«Poliom» plant — a joint venture of the Group of Companies «Titan», Gazprom Neft and SIBUR — will use more effective reagents for the treatment of recycled water. This will generate ecological effect and prolongate run life of heat-exchange equipment.

Recycled (technical) water repeatedly used in process operations for products cooling in heat echangers has very strict requirements in terms of microbiological parameters, content of suspended particles, salts and hydrogen ion exponent (pH). The requirements are exceptionally severe for foreign heat exchangers, shutdown of which caused by clogging with sediments can provoke loss of raw materials and end products. In order to maximize the quality of the recycled water Omsk Polypropylene Production Plant intends to implement state-of-the-art water treatment technologies. A company from Belgium became the winner of the tender procedure. To select reagents, dosage rate and draw up a treatment schedule, the specialists of the Siberian representative office of the company conducted an on-site analysis of circulating and make-up water supplied to restore losses due to evaporation.

Comprehensive treatment involves the use of non-oxidizing biocides to control biological deposits, corrosion inhibitors and hardness deposition, as well as two types of dispersers (substances that prevent the formation of sediment). All substances have safety certificates, are allowed to be used in recirculating systems and are successfully used at the largest Russian petrochemical plants.

The necessary dosing equipment has already been installed at water block of «Poliom», and trial run of the new water treatment system will take place in June. It is expected that its use will increase service life of heat exchangers, reduce the consumption of make-up water, and will also provide an environmental effect — reduce the amount of effluents and improve their quality.
