Petrochemistry continues its course towards greening

On January 29 the first meeting of the Committee on the chemical industry, biotechnologies and new materials of the All-Russian Public Organization “Business Russia” was held in the year 2020. The topic of the meeting was the “Formation of approaches to the development of the petrochemical complex through the industrial enterprise greening”. Representatives of government authorities, industry associations and petrochemical industry enterprises discussed trends in the field of greening production facilities.

Opening the meeting Mikhail Sutyaginsky, Head of the Committee told about the development of interaction mechanisms of production facilities with government authorities, including work with the Industrial Development Fund (FRP) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, as well as about the greening of production facilities. So, in the year 2019 the Industry Development Fund of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia expanded support for investment projects of companies. In Omsk region projects were also supported.

Daria Shevyakina, Head of the Chemical Industry Division of the Chemical Engineering Complex and Bioengineering Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia told about the current requirements imposed on companies applying for federal support of their projects in the year 2020.

The Committee members outlined areas of work in the year 2020. This is work with regulatory documentation for the development of measures to support production facilities, development of low-tonnage chemistry within the framework of industrial cooperation, support for technological solutions and breakthrough projects, support for the project implementation aimed at manufacturing environmentally friendly products.

“Chemistry allows to obtain safe products for people and improve their quality of life. For example, in the result of the acetone conversion the Group of Companies “Titan” plans to produce isopropyl alcohol, which will become a feedstock for eco car care products,” told Mikhail Sutyaginsky, Head of the Committee. “In the production of octane booster additives we provide for the replacement of methanol with ethanol. The obtained ethyl tert-butyl ether when added to motor fuel will allow to improve the environmental performance of the latter and reduce the load on the atmospheric air”.

Besides, on the basis of the Committee the introduction of the environmental standard “Clean Air Formula” will be worked at.
