Novocherkassk chemists developed a new product

The experimental and industrial laboratory of Novocherkassk Lubricant Production Plant (a part of the Group of Companies “Titan”) continues its scientific research in the field of the development of new effective products. In spring of 2020, they successfully tested their own formulation of grease based on anhydrous calcium soap.

Let’s make it clearer, that greases represent dispersions – systems where a thickener is dispersed in a liquid lubricant (base mineral or synthetic oil). Thickeners represent soaps - salts of alkali and alkaline-earth metals and fatty acids. “Greases may also include fillers (graphite, copper or aluminum powders) and various additives. Thickeners impart specific properties to greases - stability, water resistance, wear protection or heat resistance”, said specialists of NZSM.

The new grease, developed in the laboratory of the southernmost enterprise of the Group of Companies “Titan” possesses high anti-corrosion properties and can be used under exposure conditions of a wide range of temperatures. Besides, it provides protection against environmental influences - moisture, dust and sunlight, and it is suitable for use as a preservation grease, as well as for the lubrication of agricultural machinery units and road machinery. At the same time, in some branches of industry similar product can replace usual lithium greases, which are less resistant to washout.

“Greases based on anhydrous calcium soap don’t possess binding water, and due to it they don’t liquefy while using in high temperature areas, for example, in steel rolling shops”, concluded the laboratory specialists. “In general, calcium compounds are more environmentally friendly, readily available, and more economical”.

In July, a pilot product batch will be sent to a partner metallurgical enterprise in Rostov region for testing.
