New equipment for selecting catalysts has been installed at AO “Omsky kauchuk”

An experimental reactor for selecting the best option to replace the active catalyst has been put in operation at the phenol and acetone production workshop.

During testing runs the experts are going to find out if raw materials from different manufacturers are suitable for high-quality phenol purification carried out at AO “Omsky kauchuk” (part of AO GC Titan). Offer variability expansion can help decrease the dependence on specific suppliers. 

The equipment was made by the company itself. Employees of the mechanical repair shop and design and engineering department participated in the development and assembly of the unit. Searching for new samples may considerably reduce waiting time for catalysts delivery and perhaps find Russian substitutes for raw materials. This can further reduce the company's dependence on imports. AO GC Titan pays a lot of attention to using domestic technologies in its production activities and manufactures import-substituting products on its own.  

“The unit has already been put in operation. Currently, it is searching for a new catalyst. It is a long process because we need to carry out testing runs for several samples at different temperatures,” head of the phenol and acetone production shop Pavel Svirsky said.

It should be noted that application of catalyst in production process helps to effectively purify phenol from impurities at the final stage of technological process. Catalyst characteristics have a great influence on obtaining marketable product "Phenol grade A" and on the quality of the final product.
