A transalkylator which arrived at industrial site of «Omsky kauchuk» plant will become one of key positions within the framework of transition of the industrial facilities to the best available technologies.
Cumene production facilities reconstruction project with transition to more eco-friendly and modern alkylation process based on zeolite catalyst has been implemented by the Group of Companies «Titan» at the facilities of «Omsk kauchuk» plant since 2018.
The machine delivered to the production site is intended for return of by-products — polyisopropylgasolines formed at the stage of cumene obtainment — to the process. «By-products and additional raw materials, i.e. gasoline, are fed into the apparatus, wherein the target product — cumene — is generated again by the action of the catalyst. This environmentally friendly solution will help avoid waste generation, increase yield of the target product and improve its quality», pointed out Aleksander Gross, Project Manager.
To completely load the transalkylator, more than 4 tons of zeolite catalyst patented by the technology supplier will be required.
The transalkylator is produced in Russia and represents a 9.5 m high 20-ton apparatus. It is fully compliant to modern requirements in the field of ecology and industrial safety.
It is worth reminding that supplies of equipment for modernization of production facilities started in April 2019. According to supply schedule several batches of heat exchange equipment, tanks and vessels, custom-manufactured mostly by Russian enterprises has already been delivered to the site. The next batch of equipment will arrive at the site in late June.
For reference:
It should be noted that the first cumene in Omsk region was obtained in June 1964. The production facilities has been modernized several times with preservation of basic technology. The present reconstruction will not only enable to renovate the equipment and boost up production capacities by one third to 160 thnd. tons, but also to implement a new best available technology.
Cumene is used as raw material for production of phenol, acetone and alphamethylstyrene which are further processed into high-demand synthetic polymers — gums, polycarbonates and resins.
