In May, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin approved a comprehensive scientific and technical project (CSTP), which the AO Group of companies Titan plans to implement together with the country's leading research institutes.
The project will result in products output using the catalysts designed by Russian science. This project will be another step to import substitution and will make it possible to reduce technological dependence of the Russian petrochemical industry.
The full name of the project sounds like a comprehensive scientific and technical project to establish environmentally safe production of basic high-tech chemical products for the automobile, construction, medical and food industries from hydrocarbon raw materials based on innovative domestic scientific research results.
The project is coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation and co-implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. Lomonosov Moscow State University, Boreskov Institute of Catalysis and Topchiyev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis, Berbekov Kabardino-Balkarian University, MIREA (Moscow Institute of Radio, Electronics and Automatics)- Russian University of Technology are participating in the CSTP.
By 2026, the project implementation will result in production of the first batches of isopropylbenzene, phenol and acetone, isopropyl alcohol, as well as biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (BOPET) films produced using domestic catalysts. Total capital investment in the abovementioned facilities and catalysts development for them amounts to 20 billion rubles. CSTP budgetary financing will make 980 million rubles.
“The base sites for the project implementation involving the Russian scientific potential will be the enterprises of the AO Group of companies Titan - the AO “Omsky kauchuk” and Titan-Polymer, LLC plants,” the company explained. – 26 know-how are expected to be developed and eight production-ready technologies will be created that can replace currently used imported equivalents”.
It is worth reminding that the need to develop domestic catalysts is determined by the Action Plan for Import Substitution in the Oil Refining and Petrochemical Industries of the Russian Federation. In the context of sanctions pressure, this need has become critically important.
