AO “Omsky kauchuk” took part in the Federal project “The green line”

Within frames of information openness policy the petrochemical enterprise AO GC Titan took part in the first off-line conference of the Federal project -“The green line”. On May 20 the plant and AO GC Titan representatives answered the most urgent environmental issues from the people of the town in live broadcast.

The first from the conference series within frames of the project “The green line”was dedicated to environmental complaints from the Russian regions people. The Federal media-project “Russian Ecology” was the conference organizer. Scientists, social activists, bloggers and environmental volunteers had a possibility to discuss the main environmental fears of Russians, among which are concerns about the exciting industrial plants impact, distrust to the plants under construction, and concerns about the agricultural enterprises and their wastes.

The conference organizers addressed to two tens of the largest companies in Russia, actives of which are often named in environmental reports. A wish to make a contact with public representatives was expressed only by five companies, including the AO “Omsky kauchuk”plant, the first of the invited enterprises from the Omsk region.

Special attention at the conference was paid to the environmental problems in Omsk, in particular, some citizens’ complaints about the atmospheric air condition in the city were read. The eco-warrior Vladimir Lifantiev, who is also known as Oris Brut asked other list of questions, connected with the AO “Omsky kauchuk”plant operation, via videoconference. He interested by the industrial waste landfill reclamation timescales, Approval Documentation for the upgraded phenol and acetone production commissioning, and the enterprise request lawfulness to receipt of funds to decide environmental problems.

Advisor to the General Director for health, safety and environment of AO “Omsky kauchuk”Peter Fain noted that the enterprise hold leading positions in the regional environmental openness rating, it has the environmental management system, developed eco-friendly standards and implement projects to reduce environmental impact. “The problem of environmental negative impact reducing becomes the enterprise’s primary objective: In 2019 the reconstruction of the cumene production started using the best available technologies allow to reduce the atmospheric air impact up to 85%,”he told “All necessary engineering documents has been prepared for the waste landfill reclamation and sent to the Governmental environmental inspection.”

In accordance with the expert words waste landfill reclamation project implementation and other projects timescales depend on various factors, because of the collaborative work with the oversight body.

Also Peter Fain commented the last plant unscheduled inspection results made by Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, and which were shared by the chief of the body Svetlana Radionova in social nets. He reported that the major part of the detected violations is connected with the conservational documentation formulation, and the phenol and acetone production has necessary commissioning permit.

The general environmental situation in Omsk was analyzed by the deputy Director General for Legal Affairs of АО GC Titan Alexey Obukhov. He is sure that ordinary nationals do not know enough about the main reasons of the air pollution and they do not have any sources to get the knowledge.

“People start to connect one or another situation with names of large enterprises’ names, which they know,”he noted “ But in accordance with the official data, the AO “Omsky kauchuk”plant contribution to the total toxic wastes emissions to the city atmosphere is just 1,4%, but the total contribution of the chemical enterprises is just 28%, and the main emission sources are automobile emissions.”

Alexey Obukhov also reminded that the AO “Omsky kauchuk”plant maintains an open dialog with the people with help of the corporate site and social nets, where the company posts air sample analysis data on the enterprise sanitary protection zone border.

The tax concession situation was explained by the Deputy General Director for Corporate Communications АО GC Titan Alina Rybina. In accordance with her opinion, the issue set by President of Russian Federation to reduce the environmental impact on the atmosphere up to in cities requires from the businesses to pay a lot for the production process revision and modernization, so companies have a right to apply for the partial compensation for expenses incurred within frames of the norms allowed by law. “We are not the first enterprise in the city, which followed this way”she finished.

In December 2020 the mass media organization “Russian Ecology” team, including the internet-portal and special magazine, and the Whole-Russian ecological volunteer organization “Do!” began the project “The green line” to analyze the Russian citizens’ environmental anxiety. Within frames of the project, every citizen could call the toll-free hotline and tell about environmental problems and thoughts about it. From the 1^st to the 3^rd December 2020 more than 3800 calls were collected and the largest parts of regions were covered.
