RUPEC: the AO “Omsky kauchuk” has revamped the cumene and isopropanol production

The AO “Omsky kauchuk” (a part of the AO GC Titan) plant has been permitted to commission the revamped isopropylbenzene (cumene) production with a capacity of 160 thousand tons per year, TASS reports with reference to the company.

It is noted that the reconstruction allowed reducing atmospheric emissions by 85% and increasing by one third the output of this substance used as a high-octane additive to gasoline and jet fuel, as well as the main raw material for the production of phenol, acetone and alfamethylstyrene (a component for rubber production).

The establishment of isopropyl alcohol production unit with capacity of about 60 thousand tons per year is also a part of the project, which will significantly reduce the consumption of imported raw materials.

Currently, up to 2/3 of isopropyl alcohol is purchased abroad.
