Rupec: «Omsky kauchuk» continues to receive equipment for the production of cumene

“Omsky kauchuk” (member of the Group of Companies “Titan”) received a Russian-made alkylator for cumene production facilities under reconstruction, the company’s press service informed Rupec.

Alkylator is the largest unit of equipment for the production of isopropylgasoline: weight — 64 tons, length — 22 meters. The equipment was manufactured in Penza region. The delivery to Omsk took eight days.

At the present time, reconstruction of cumene production is in progress at “Omsky kauchuk” premises. The major purpose is to introduce a more efficient technology of production and increase output by one third — up to 160,000 tons per year.

"Two raw components — propylene and gasoline — enter into an alkylation reaction in the presence of zeolite catalyst. The process is carried out on a fixed layer of zeolites — this is the most reliable and efficient scheme compared to the current one," explained Aleksander Gross, Project manager of the reconstruction.

As a result of the reaction cumene and small quantity of side substances is formed which turn into the target product at the next stage in a transalkylation reactor. Thanks to the use of the best available technology, the environmental impact will be reduced by a factor of 16 due to the reduction of production waste and by-products, as well as the elimination of process effluents.

Supplies of equipment for modernization of cumene production facilities started in April 2019. Transalkylator, heat exchangers, tanks and vessels, custom-manufactured mostly by Russian enterprises have already been delivered to the site.

At the beginning of August, preparatory work was carried out on the site for new construction. 40 people were engaged in the facility operations.

“Omsky kauchuk” specializes in the production of synthetic rubbers, liquefied gases, octane-increasing additives, and organic synthesis products. The company ranks among the top three largest exporters of styrene-butadiene rubbers in Russia.
