Ministry of Industry of Omsk region: the AO “Omsky kauchuk” reduces environmental impact

The Group of companies Titan plans to reduce emissions by 1,000 tonnes per year by 2024. Ecologization of “Omsky kauchuk” capacities has been discussed today during the visit to the plant by the representatives of the project office of the federal project “Clear Air” as well as by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of Omsk region Ilya Lobov and other representatives of the regional government. During their visit, the delegation toured the largest enterprises of the city, where they assessed the implementation of the federal project “Clear Air”.

 “We have had a reset of the “Clear Air” federal project - the project office has been passed under the control of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. A number of approaches to the federal project implementation will change significantly. First of all, it was decided to establish a methodology center to support the project in each city. Secondly, a competence center is being established on the basis of the All-Russian Research Institute of Ecology to provide support through training and advice. In addition, legislation amendments on problematic issues are being prepared today, in particular, the issue related to compensatory measures application,” the Head of the Project Office “Clear Air” of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation, Maxim Korolkov commented.

Since 2017, the AO GC Titan has already invested more than 10 billion roubles in the projects aimed at production facilities greening. The complex ecological program is being implemented at the AO "Omsky kauchuk" plant, in the course of which the emissions have been reduced by almost 20 percent over the past few years.

Today the company emits in total 4,000 tonnes per year, accounting for 1.5 per cent of the city's total gross emissions. And this volume is set to decline.

“We will continue upgrading further. We have developed a number of measures aimed at reducing the environmental load. As for new plants' revamp it will be continued taking into account all environmental aspects and introduction of the best available technologies. We are talking about modern equipment and technologies reducing the environmental impact,” General Director of the AO “Omsky kauchuk” plant, Sergey Ivanilov, said.

One of the company's priorities is to upgrade the production of high-octane additives and liquefied hydrocarbon gases. We are talking about ETBE production - ethyl tert-butyl ether. The dehydrogenation unit will be equipped with an entirely new technological scheme which will make it possible to completely eliminate priority emissions at this production. The benzene pipeline is also being designed and planned to be launched at the plant as part of this upgrade. Due to this measure, benzene emissions will be reduced by 40 per cent.

A number of other projects are also planned. These include upgrading the ammonia refrigeration units and changing the cooling system from brine to water, which also reduces the environmental impact.

We should add that the company's own accredited laboratory monitors emissions within the company's zone of influence on a daily basis. Several times a day, specialists take tests and samples of air and wastewater, and the results are published on the company's official website and social media pages. In addition, the monitoring data is ready to be provided to the regulatory authorities for more effective joint work
