Delovaya Rossiya: Chemical Industry Committee of Delovaya Rossiya took part in the key industry event

Mikhail Sutyaginsky gave a speech at the Chemistry 2021 exhibition.

The 24th Chemistry 2021 International Exhibition of Chemical Industry and Science was held at the Cultural and Exhibition Expocenter on October, 25-27. A traditional Moscow International Chemical Forum, organized by the Russian Union of Chemists, was held as part of the exhibition.

On October 26, a key strategic session “Competitiveness and development of the Russian chemical industry in modern economic realities” was held at Moscow International Chemical Forum within the framework of the Chemistry – 2021 exhibition.

The event was moderated by Viktor Ivanov, President of the Russian Union of Chemists. The session was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, industry associations and business.

Mikhail Sutyaginsky, Chairman of the Chemistry Industry Committee of Delovaya Rossiya and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AO GC Titan, spoke at the event.

Mikhail Sutyaginsky emphasised that we were living in a very interesting time, the world was changing rapidly, new technologies were being introduced and we had to adapt to new challenges and not only to keep the course, but also to improve our competitiveness.

Mikhail Sutyaginsky devoted his speech to the development of domestically-produced epoxy resins. The head of the AO GC Titan reminded that the Group of companies Titan had completed the first stage of the project on complex modernization of the organic synthesis production. The revamped cumene, phenol and acetone production units were launched. In particular, the availability of basic high quality raw materials makes it possible to move to the project implementation for epoxy resins production - the strategic material for the domestic industry.

“We have plans to arrange a large complex including the production of epichlorohydrin - one of the epoxy resins components - with a capacity over 50,000 tonnes per year involving a sodium chloride electrolysis unit. Unlike the previous one, the old method of epichlorohydrin production from propylene, we propose technology of epichlorohydrin production from glycerine. This will help us to involve renewable sources of raw materials - oil crops - in the production process,” Mikhail Sutyaginsky said.

He also noted that the project to develop domestically produced epoxy resins had high environmental performance. The new technology will make it possible to completely eliminate wastewater discharge. With the implementation of a complete production chain, it will be possible to completely treat the wastewater and return it back to the unit. As a result, the new production facility will have minimal environmental impact.

According to experts, global production of epoxy resins today be in the order of 4 million tonnes per year, while almost all resins are imported to Russia.

“Today the epoxy resin market in Russia is estimated to be around 75,000 tonnes per year. The startup of such production with a wide brand range, including not only basic, but also hard grades of epoxy resins, will make it possible to fully cover the needs of Russian producers”, Mikhail Sutyaginsky concluded.

In addition, the speaker noted that proposals were being made at the platform of the Chemical Industry Committee of Delovaya Rossiya to form a development concept for the industry, including the industry associations concerned, and urged the forum participants to join this work.

“Chemistry Industry Committee of Delovaya Rossiya is a platform where business representatives form proposals and initiatives to support the industry, find potential partners and attract the attention of the authorities to solve system problems of the chemical complex,” Mikhail Sutyaginsky said.

Mikhail Sutyaginsky closed his speech by wishing all forum participants effective work and inviting colleagues to work together and cooperate.

The International CHEMISTRY Exhibition has been held in Moscow since 1965 and is one of the most prestigious exhibitions in its field.

Chemistry exhibition is a meeting place for manufacturers of chemical products and services, suppliers of advanced technologies and equipment, and consumers of various industries from many countries of the world.
