The AO Group of companies Titan has confirmed its intention to continue the development of the organic synthesis production

During the Moscow International Chemical Forum within the framework of the exhibition "Chemistry-2021", Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AO GC Titan Mikhail Sutyaginsky announced the plans for epoxy resins production in the “Avangard” SEZ in Omsk.

Speaking at the main event discussion, Head of the AO GC Titan reminded that the Group of companies Titan had completed the first project stage of the comprehensive modernization of the organic synthesis production. Upgraded cumene, phenol, and acetone production units were commissioned. Due to basic high-quality raw materials it is possible to move on to implementation of the epoxy resin production project – as this material is strategic for the domestic industry.

“We have plans to arrange a large complex including epichlorohydrin production - one of the epoxy resins components – with a capacity of over 50 thousand tons per year with a sodium chloride electrolysis. Unlike the previous outdated scheme for obtaining epichlorohydrin from propylene, we offer technology for obtaining this substance from glycerol. It will help us to involve renewable sources of raw materials (oilseeds) in production,” Mikhail Sutyaginsky reported.
He also noted that the project for development of domestic epoxy resins production had high environmental characteristics. The new technology will allow to completely eliminate wastewater discharge. With the implementation of a complete production chain, it will be possible to fully treat the effluent and recycle to the unit. As a result, the new production will have minimal environmental impact.

According to experts, today the world production of epoxy resins is about 4 million tons per year, while almost all resins are imported in Russia.

“Today the epoxy resins market in Russia is estimated at about 75,000 tons per year.  Start-up of such production with a wide range of brands, including not only basic, but also hard grades of epoxy resins, will allow to fully cover the needs of Russian manufacturers,” Mikhail Sutyaginsky concluded.
