“RUSSIAN MAIN STATE EXPERT REVIEW BOARD”: Omsk rubber production will become more environmentally friendly

The launch of a new automated gas utilization system using a compressor unit has completed the next stage of environmental modernization of the AO GC Titan's Omsk plant. This is stated in the report of the group of companies. Earlier, projects for modernization of gas refining processes at the plant received the affirmative statement from Glavgosexpertiza (RF Main State Expert Review Board) of Russia.

“Two automated propylene and propane-propylene fraction discharge modules have already been installed at the AO "Omsky kauchuk", which have proven to be environmentally efficient. The new unit launch is the next stage completion of the environmental modernization of the Omsk site,” Andrey Putrya, Chief Project Expert of the Chief Project Experts Service of the Directorate of Energy Complex and Production Facilities of Glavgosexpertiza of Russia commented.

Founded in Omsk in 1962, the plant today is producing several grades of rubbers, latexes, high-octane fuel additives and other top requested chemical products. The company is also the only Russian producer of cumene exporting its products.

The new compressor unit will make it possible to condense and recycle up to 400 tonnes of hydrocarbon gases, generated by the discharge of butane and butane-butylene fractions from tank wagons. Moreover, the technology of converting gas vapour into liquid eliminates the use of nitrogen and the need for vapour disposal.

“Omsk is one of the cities participating in the Clean Air federal project aimed at reducing air pollution in large industrial centers. At the same time, already by 2024, the region is to reduce total volume of emissions by at least 20%,” the AO GC Titan notes.

In 2018, as part of production facilities of the AO “Omsky kauchuk” revamping, including the purpose to reduce the environmental impact of gas refining processes, Glavgosexpertiza issued affirmative statements for the projects of a hydrogen plant construction with hydrogen release by pressure swing adsorption (PSA), as well as projects for reconstruction of phenol and acetone production, isopropylbenzene (cumene) with isopropanol production unit.
