Kommercheskiye Vesti: A monument to Ivan Buchholz was unveiled in Omsk on the City Day supported by GC Titan

The sculptural composition devoted to Ivan Buchholz and the city founders became the first equestrian monument in Omsk. 

Today, the monument to Ivan Buchholz has been unveiled at the Irtysh Embankment in honour of the 307th anniversary of the city foundation. The event was attended by Vitaly KHOTSENKO, Acting Governor, Sergey SHELEST, Mayor of the city, Mikhail SUTYAGINSKY, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AO GC Titan, and Mikhail MININ, sculptor and member of the Union of Artists of Russia.

GC Titan became a patron of the project for installation of the monument and improvement of the adjacent territory.

"Installation of the monument to the founders of Omsk is an important stage in the history of the city and a memorable day for all its residents. We are glad that we have become a part of this history," Chairman of the Board of Directors of AO GC Titan Mikhail SUTYAGINSKY noted. - In implementing this significant and large-scale project, we saw an opportunity to preserve history and culture of the city and convey it to future generations. Our company is indissolubly related to Omsk, and it is important for us that the success of its development is shared by the city's residents through our social, educational and cultural projects".

The sculptural composition devoted to Ivan Buchholz and the city founders became the first equestrian monument in Omsk. Its author is Omsk artist Mikhail MININ, who has restored the Admiralty spires in St. Petersburg and bas-reliefs of historical buildings in the Northern capital. In Omsk, Mikhail is known for such works as the lion monuments near the Omsk Museum of Enlightenment and the bas-relief of artist Alexei Liberov at Omsk State Pedagogical University.

"As a city resident, I like the monument very much. I think it brings us back to that era, several hundred years ago, when Ivan Dmitrievich Buchholz first set foot on this ground. So many residents and guests of our city came to see the opening today. I am sure that no one will remain indifferent," Vitaly KHOTSENKO, Acting Governor of Omsk Region, said.

30 craftsmen - sculptors, foundry workers and builders - have been working hard on the monument for 273 days. Total weight of all monument elements, including the horse and reliefs, cast in bronze, is about 5 tonnes. The height of the monument is 8.3 metres, almost half of which is accounted for by the horse sculpture itself - 4 metres.

"I would like to thank Mikhail Alexandrovich Sutyaginsky for such a wonderful gift to the city. It took about a year from the moment the project was discussed to its implementation. Professionals will keep me honest - it is a very short period of time. However, the team that was arranged for this great deal: both sculptor Mikhail Pavlovich Minin and his colleagues, and the builders who prepared the site, and our landscaping service - worked very precisely and in a coordinated manner. Now this place at the embankment will become one of Omsk landmarks and will make us happy as its residents as well as guests of the city for many years", - Mayor of Omsk Sergey SHELEST commented.
