Dostoevsky OmSU in cooperation with University of IT, Mechanics and Optics (St.Petersburg) implemented a unique one-week intensive course for 50 high school students who were interested in chemistry.
SCAMT Workshop Week: School Edition (SWW SE) is a scientific workshop-school which was held in Omsk for the first time. From October 30 to November 4, the high school students worked in teams of 3 to 6 people on various projects related to cutting-edge developments in the fields of chemistry, chemical technologies and IT.
The students were involved in many activities in just one week: they worked in the laboratories of OmSU’s Chemical Faculty, attended lectures, master-classes and created their final projects. They learned the basics of photochemistry, digital simulation of an air-cooling unit, searched for materials for bone tissue replacement, examined diesel fuel, and applied machine learning to solve chemical problems.
GC Titan actively participated in the project, having become an industrial partner of the workshop-school, and held a few educational events. During a meeting with the students, lead expert engineer of the Engineering Center Nadezhda Nikitina spoke about dynamically improving enterprises of GC Titan, the activity of the Center and its innovative technologies and investment projects, and presented a range of products manufactured by the holding.
Lead HR specialist Tatiana Shoretz held a quiz game “Orbit Titan”. During the event the participants worked out a strategy for attracting new employees and promoting the company’s brand. All of this allowed the students not only to get familiar with the company, but also to improve their marketing, branding and HR management skills.
Lead engineer, head of the Technical Department of AO “Osmky kauchuk” (part of GC Titan) Vsevolod Lozanov, together with representatives of OmSU and ITMO, was a member of the expert committee judging presentations of the projects which the workshop participants worked on during the week.
“I was quite surprised with students’ diligence and hard work, their desire to succeed, their engagement and proactive attitude during project presentations. Each project was interesting and unique in its own way. The scientific school has become a great platform not only for experience and knowledge exchange, but also for strengthening friendly ties between the participants. I hope the young researchers will continue their scientific activity in the future and make a significant contribution to the development of the chemical industry,” Vsevolod Lozanov said.
